The legend of the stork started hundreds of years ago in Europe. Storks would build their nests on rooftops and on chimneys in full view of all those who would pass by. The Hebrew word for stork was equivalent to "kind mother," and the way the storks cared for their young in their highly visible nests made the stork a widespread symbol of parental care. This combined with the fact that storks would return to their nests in the spring, a time when many babies were born, culminated in the stork becoming “the deliverer of babies” whose job was to bring a "bundle of joy" to new parents.
